Since much of my portrait work at the moment is focusing on the process and not so much the image itself, I decided to see what would happen to my process if I tried to document my family's adventure to Kauai in 35mm film. I haven't shot a roll of film in years, but it was like reconnecting with an old friend. A little bit awkward at first, but then so comfortable. I loved the way it made me feel more present with what was in front of the camera instead of what I was seeing on the screen behind the camera. I loved the sound the shutter made. I love that the result are photographs that somehow feel less composed and more true. I think this film experiment is one I will continue.
